According to online court records, the man who is accused of stabbing K-9 Pyro of the Green Bay Police Department, has been found incompetent to stand trial. 30-year-old Sai Vang appeared for an evidentiary hearing this week, where a competency report was submitted and the judge granted an order of commitment for treatment. A court hearing is set for August 27th where the judge will determine if Vang is competent to stand trial or if there will be further delays.
Sia Vang called 911 in early April, claiming to have a weapon. He said that he would kill his father and any police officer that came near his home. Officers then surrounded the home on the 1300 block of Western Avenue, and brought a Bearcat armored vehicle with them. Officers ordered Vang exit the home, but he refused, this is when K9 Pyro was deployed. The K9 officer bit Vang, who pulled out a knife and stabbed him three times in his neck area. Pyro continued to stay latched on Vang until officers were able to Taser him.
Pyro underwent 2 surgeries and recovered quickly. He has returned to work with the Green Bay Police Department.
Vang is charged with one felony and two misdemeanors.
