Rookie Devin Smeltzer threw six shutout innings in his major league debut as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Brewers 5-3 Tuesday. The Twins earned a split of the two-game series by scoring five times in the seventh inning. Milwaukee starter Zach Davies matched Smeltzer with six scoreless innings of his own. The Brewers got home runs from Yasmani Grandal and Kestin Hiura in the eighth, then Hiura tacked on another one in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough. The Brewers take tonight (Wednesday) off, then send Chase Anderson against the Pirates in the first of a four-game series in Pittsburgh.
