Pairings have been determined for this week’s 97th Annual W-I-A-A Boys State Individual Tennis Championships in Madison. The three-day tournament gets underway Thursday morning at 10:30 inside Nielsen Stadium on the campus of UW-Madison. Among local competitors in Division-1: Manitowoc Lincoln freshman Logan Anderson competes against Cooper Ferruzzi of Westosha Central Thursday afternoon at 12:30 pm. The winner advances to play the the #2 Singles player in De Pere’s Nathan Balthazor at 5:30 Thursday. Balthazor has a 1st round bye.
The Ships Doubles tandem of sophomore Aidan Newberg & junior Jack Rotter face the Waterford senior duo of Josh & Sam Fay, Thursday at 3:30 pm. A win sends them into a 2nd round match against the 2 seed from Marquette University High, Friday morning.
In Division-2 competition: Roncalli junior, Jacob Linzmeier goes up against #5 seeded Teddy Wong of Dominican/Eastbrook Academy, Thursday at 5:45 pm. Meanwhile, in D-2 Doubles, the Jets’ twosome of senior Alec Schermetzler and sophomore Steffen Lipski, square off against Mitchell Merkel & Brent Martin of Eau Claire Thursday night at 7:30. A victory would earn them a shot at the ‘3’ seed from Sauk Prairie early Friday afternoon.
