Two boys baseball teams that could meet up in the Oshkosh North Sectional finals in two weeks, met last night in a non-conference game at Municipal Field. #1 seeded Manitowoc Lincoln got a walk-off win over 2nd seeded Slinger, 5-to-4, on ‘Senior Night. The Ships trailed 4-3 entering the home half of the 7th, when after 1 out, Jeremy Arnemann drew a walk followed by a long double to the leftcenter field fence by Jacob DeBruin to score the tying run. Jacob advanced to third on an overthrow at the plate. Will Maples then looped a game-winning single over a drawn in infield, to set off a celebration.
Coach Bruce Steinbecker said DeBruin, his catcher, deserves a ton of credit for his baserunning.
Not only did Maples drive in the game-winner, he also ended up getting the victory, retiring the only batter he faced. Lincoln starter, senior Alex Kahlenberg, worked 6-and-two-third effective innings, before he was pulled due to a pitch limit. The Ships are scheduled to travel to Appleton West this afternoon for their regular season finale and their 4th game of the week. The 4-seniors introduced before the game were: Arnemann, Kahlenberg, Cory Bloedorn and Kaeden Mathiesen.
