Samantha “Sam” Meyer, an intensive care unit registered nurse specializing in heart health and prevention of heart disease, has been named Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County’s Nurse of the Year. Meyer and 32 nurses across Advocate Aurora Health’s system in Illinois and Wisconsin were recognized by Advocate Aurora Health’s executive leaders in a celebration on May 7 in Gurnee, IL. Meyer saw the opportunity to further serve patients when she became a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner in February of 2016. From the intake process to sitting with patients for hours, offering them comfort and a listening ear, Sam consistently makes it her personal mission to make every patient feel as relaxed as possible during a frightening and distressing time in their lives. Advocate Aurora Health employs nearly 22,000 professional nurses across the system’s 28 acute care facilities and more than 500 sites of care. Nurses represent one-third of Advocate Aurora Health’s workforce.
