Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has big plans for the downtown area as Wisconsin’s largest city gets ready for the Democratic National Convention. Barrett is already working furiously to expand the streetcar system called “The Hop” by the time the convention is held in July 2020. Now, he wants to spend five million dollars on a one-acre plaza which would include space for retail, a farmers market, public art, a streetcar platform, and a bus stop. Tax increment financing would pay for the project.
