Sheboygan County residents are now finally getting the expanded highway 23 that has been in discussion for quite some time. Governor Tony Evers was even on hand to help break ground on the Project yesterday. The Governor has some ties to the unsafe nature of the highway, as he said during the ceremony, “Growing up in the Plymouth area, we’ve lost some family and friends on Highway 23 too, safety is obviously the top priority.” Wisconsin’s Department of Transportation says there were 217 crashes on WIS 23 from 2013 to 2017. The roots of this expansion can be traced all the way back to 1999 when the idea was first introduced. The project is expected to cost around $150 million.
