The Manitowoc Police Department was asked to perform a welfare check on a 35-year-old Manitowoc man early Sunday morning that turned into a drug arrest. The caller asked the MPD to check on her ex-boyfriend, whom she had recently broken up with. She told the officers that he was not taking the breakup well and that he had threatened to overdose on heroin. The officers arrived at his home in the Newport Village, located in the 700 block of East Albert Drive, and entered the premise with the permission of the caller, who was also a registered resident. The man eventually consented to a search and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, Oxycodone Hydrochloride as well as several items of drug paraphernalia. When officers attempted to arrest the man, he physically resisted but was not violent in doing so. The man was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of a Schedule Two Narcotic, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting an Officer.
