Attorney General Josh Kaul says the U-S District Court in Southern Georgia granted Wisconsin’s request to withdraw from a case challenging federal protections under the Clean Water Act. A-G Kaul said, “by withdrawing from this lawsuit, we’ve ended the state of Wisconsin’s involvement in an effort to weaken the protection of our water.” The E-P-A put a new regulation into effect in 2015 to more clearly define “the waters of the United States.” Wisconsin was among a group of states that challenged the WOTUS rule, claiming it exceeded the federal government’s authority. The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s motion to withdraw was granted Thursday.
