Fish experts with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources say dozens of dead fish along Wingra Creek in Madison aren’t unusual. The roller-coaster spring weather with repeated warm and cool cycles have stressed the fish and made them vulnerable to bacteria in the water. Some people who saw the dead bluegills wondered if chemicals had been illegally dumped into the creek. When they die, the wind and currents tend to bunch them along the sides of the creek.
