The Catholic Diocese of Green Bay has made an official response to the potential arson of St. Matthews. While the fire appeared to be intentionally started, authorities say that it does not appear that the arson was intentionally targeting religious institutions. Bishop David L. Ricken of the Diocese said “Fr. Bob Kabat, the good parishioners of St. Matthew’s, and the troubled person who caused this are in my thoughts and prayers.” In a letter to the parishioners of the Church, it was stated “A restoration crew will be on site today (yesterday) to eliminate the lingering smell in a portion of the church and school.” They also thanked the local authorities for helping ot during the Church’s time of need.
