Very few things can put stress on a family like a child suffering from a serious disease. There is a relatively new organization in Manitowoc that aims to help such families. John Bilka from Lean On Me Lakeshore explained that they “…give assistance to families who have children with medical needs, and are experiencing financial hardship because of that.”
Bilka explained to us that families these days tend to have a harder time paying for medical expenses surrounding a debilitating disease. “In this day and age, it’s very hard for a working family to afford, it’s hard to budget for that,” Bilka explained. ”Insurance just isn’t what it used to be.”
