The Manitowoc Fire Department is praising the quick actions of a citizen, whose reporting of a garage fire prevented major damage from occurring. The MFD was informed of the fire just after midnight last night and sent crews to the home on Jackson Street. The fire in the detached garage was extinguished within 10 minutes of arrival, however a car parked outside the garage and the corresponding home received minor heat damage. The MFD says that if it had not been for the caller reporting the blaze, surrounding properties would have been damaged as well. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
