Thursday night, The National Weather Service and Manitowoc County are offering a storm spotter train class. Storm spotters are volunteers who help their community and the National Weather Service by keeping an “eye on the sky” during severe weather. Travis Waack the Emergency Service Coordinator for Manitowoc County said the class is expected to cover some very interesting material including “…what clouds to look for. What’s a tornado. What’s not a tornado. Funnel clouds, versus water spouts, versus tornados, and measuring hail size. Everything you could possibly want to know about severe weather and what to report, and how to report it.”
Last year’s class was standing room only so, this session has been moved. Waack explained that the class will be held in the UWGB-Manitowoc Campus Theater. He called it a “…nice big venue.”
The storm spotter class gets started at 6 pm, it is free and open to everyone, Waack said to expect to spend an hour or 90-minutes depending on the number of questions.
