Manitowoc’s Metro Jam has announced that Memphis Soul Legend, Booker T. Jones will be headlining the 2019 event scheduled for Saturday evening June 15th. He and his band will take the stage at 8:30 pm. Booker T. Jones is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient and arguably the most famous Hammond B3 player in history. As leader of the legendary Booker T. and The MG’s, he was responsible for many hits in the ’60s including such classics as “Green Onions” and “Time Is Tight”. This pillar of soul music collaborated with Otis Redding, Albert King, and more during his tenure at Stax Records. Both Booker T.’s 2009 solo release “Potato Hole” and his 2011 solo release “The Road From Memphis” won GRAMMY Awards for Best Pop Instrumental Album.
The 41st Annual Metro Jam will be held on the MetroStage in downtown Manitowoc’s Washington Park, on Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15, 2019. This FREE two-day event features an array of national, regional and local acts covering a full spectrum of musical styles including jazz, blues, R&B, soul, folk, alt-country, Americana, classic rock and original rock. Metro Jam features 10 different acts over the two days of the festival. Metro Jam is a partnership with The Manitowoc Jaycees. This FREE concert is made possible due to support from presenting sponsors Baileigh Industrial, Cher-Make Sausage and media partners WOMT, WQTC Q-102 and Lake 98.1 along with many additional generous supporters.
Metro Jam with the help of the Manitowoc Jaycees continues to be able to provide donations back to the community from concession sales at the park over the weekend. Recent recipients have been the Manitowoc K-9 Unit, The Haven, the Domestic Violence Center, Manitowoc Miracle League, along with many other well deserving organizations. Last year donations went to support Backpack Buddies, a new charity that supports the needs of foster children in Manitowoc County, and the Manitowoc Zoo.
