A Manitowoc man led police on a nearly deadly car chase early Saturday morning. On officer saw a man, later identified as 29 year old Michael A. Buda fail to stop at a stop sign at the corner of York and North 10th Streets, and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Buda refused to acknowledge the lights and sirens of the squad car and continued to speed away from the officer in pursuit. Buda then turned onto Franklin Street, where he narrowly avoided hitting two officers that were in the middle of a separate traffic stop. The officers were able to get out of the way, avoiding a disaster. An officer was eventually able to box Buda in, and both officers quickly swarmed the vehicle with guns drawn. Buda refused to exit the car, so he was shot with a Taser, causing him to fall from the vehicle. Buda was taken into custody, and is being charged with felony fleeing or eluding an officer, and a misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer.
