The Manitowoc County Historical Society is excited to announce its 2019 Apprentice Interpreter, Lia Haile.
Apprentice Interpreters are part of a season-long volunteer program that lets Future Historians take the reins and bring history to life for visitors.
After training in spring (focusing on historic thinking skills, historical content, and interpretation skills) Apprentice Interpreters will work throughout Pinecrest Historical Village as part of MCHS’ Interpretive Team. In addition to bringing the historic structures to life for visitors, Apprentice Interpreters are provided with career development in the form of one-on-one coaching with museum staff, public speaking, and training in historic skills.
Lia is passionate about history and teaching, evident in this quote from her application: “Learning history isn’t just reciting facts or dates. History involves people, places, events, love, hate, passion, and loss. History isn’t stagnant, it’s dynamic! Therefore, teaching history means taking past events and making them relevant and exciting.”
