Update 4/10/19: Due to severe weather expected Thursday around the state, the Statewide Tornado Drill has been postponed until Friday, April 12 at 1:45 PM and again at 6:45 PM
There will be statewide tornado drills in a couple of weeks. The drills, which will take place on Thursday, April 11th, are part of the annual Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week held April 8-12th to encourage everyone in Wisconsin to be ready for possible tornadoes and severe weather. Last year Wisconsin saw above-average tornado activity with 33 tornadoes around the state, including one near Kiel in Manitowoc County. The test warnings will be issued at 1:45 PM and again at 6:45 PM. Manitowoc County will activate outdoor warning sirens at both of those times. When the sirens sound, individuals, families, schools, and businesses should practice moving to their designated shelter locations on the lowest level of their home or building in an interior room without windows.
In addition, the Manitowoc County Emergency Services Division will be hosting a Storm Spotter training on April 18 at the UW-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus Theater on April 18th beginning at 6 pm. The free training will teach you how to report severe weather to the National Weather Service and potentially save lives by increasing warning times.
