Staff members with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources plan to conduct “prescribed burns” on state wildlife areas in Manitowoc, Calumet & Kewaunee Counties. The ‘burns will occur in coming months if-and-when weather & ground conditions meet strict standards for safety & effectiveness.
Steve Easterly, DNR wildlife biologist for the 3-county area, tells Seehafer News the prescribed burns are done for a couple of reasons.
Those burns are planned for the Brillion Killsnake, Rosecrans, Besadny & Collins Marsh state wildlife areas. It ‘has’ been a wet start to 2019 and Easterly was asked ‘how it’ll affect their approach?”
The DNR wildlife biologist says a lot of heavy rains and, a big snowstorm in mid-April last year got their plans behind. He added they should be on track to get some of the ‘burns’ done by mid-May. Easterly said local police and fire officials are notified when-and-where prescribed burns will take place.
