A Manitowoc woman was among those rescued from a stranded Norwegian cruise ship. The Viking Sky lost power off the rocky reefs of Norway on Saturday, and dropped anchor in stormy weather. Then, one-by-one rescue helicopters pulled nearly 500-passengers, including Eileen Kummer to safety. Kummer told CBS News that the experience was “…terrifying, but it was so professionally done.”
Tugboats were able to tow the stranded vessel back to shore on its’ own engines. The U.S. Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board will help investigate the incident which left 25-people injured. The cruise ship company has promised to compensate Kummer, her husband Lee and other passengers for their ordeal and invite them back.
