Update: The Flood Warning for Manitowoc County has been cancelled by the National Weather Service as ice jams are clearing and area rivers are returning to normal levels
The flooding in the Manitowoc Rapids area is receding, according to Manitowoc city officials. They met at the flood site this morning to re-evaluate the conditions in the area. They determined that the water level has gone down significantly and the area will be opened after debris is cleared this morning. Five houses disconnected from electricity are being addressed by the city’s electrical inspector and Manitowoc Public Utilities. City officials will continue to closely monitor the river conditions as the ice continues to move downstream, and will provide updates until the flood warning is no longer needed. Officers say the only streets with problems are North 41st and Archer Streets, where ice chunks are still blocking roadways. The ice jam that was causing the flooding has apparently moved downriver, allowing the waters to go down to more manageable levels
