Washington Park will be closed in the City of Manitowoc from 7:30 am – 5:00 pm through tomorrow. The City has contracted with Chris Lewis Tree Service to remove several large Ash Trees that have been affected by the Emerald Ash Borer. A plan is in place to replace these trees at a later date. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources informed the City of Manitowoc that EAB had been detected in the city back in July of 2017, and over the last two years the City Forester has been monitoring Ash trees on City owned property. In 2018 the City received an Urban Forestry Grant which is covering 50% of the funds for this tree removal and is assisting with the costs of treatment. The City Forester is currently treating approximately 10% of the Ash Trees in the city to keep them healthy. EAB has been found to be nearly 100% fatal to untreated Ash trees.
