Unemployment Rates increased in January for both Manitowoc and Manitowoc County. Numbers released this afternoon by the State Department of Workforce Development show the city’s jobless rate rose from three-point-two Percent in December to three-point-eight percent in January but a decrease of one tenth-of-a-percent from January’s 2018 rate of three-point-nine percent. In Manitowoc County three-point-seven-percent of the job force was unemployed-a seventh-tenths percent rise from December’s figure of three-percent but down from the three-point-eight percent rate from December 2018. Preliminary January 2019 unemployment rates show Manitowoc was one of 13 of the state’s largest thirty-two cities where unemployment rose in January while Manitowoc County is one of 54 of 72 counties where the jobless rate increased.
