Roncalli’s first round opponent Thursday at the WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament Is New Glarus. While the defending champion Jets are making their third consecutive trip to state, it is the Glarner Knights first appearance since 1932. New Glarus basketball coach Travis Sysko compiled a 24-2 mark with a running style of full court press, and we asked him if e plans to change anything for Roncalli. He said he was gonna look at the film, and is aware of the skill of Chombi Lambert, but at the same time he doesn’t want to stray from what got them to there in the first place.
The Glarner Knights feature All-State guard Jaden Kreklow, who is averaging 22 points a game. Sysco called him a “very special player”, going on to say “When he turns it on, when he’s on a roll, not many people can stay with him.” Sysko also commented on Kreklow improved as a leader, becoming more vocal with his teammates.
The State Division 4 semifinal between Roncalli and New Glarus will tip off at 6:35 Thursday night at the Kohl Center, and broadcast coverage begins at 6:00 PM, with a special pre-game show on 1240 AM WOMT and at womtradio.com. Athletic Director Dave Mueller told us this morning the Jets will have a send-off at 8am tomorrow, prior to boarding the bus to Madison. He added they have room on the Fan Bus and less than 50-student tickets remain. Fans will need to go online at www.wiaawi.org, or purchase their tickets at the Kohl Center.
