The Manitowoc Fire Rescue department was called late yesterday afternoon to a garage fire at 732 South 22nd Street. Deputy Fire Chief Karl Koch said when crews arrived around 4:00 o’clock, heavy smoke was coming from the roof edge & closed overhead door on an unattached two-car garage. Firefighters entered the burning structure and found a large volume of fire in the rear portion of the garage. They quickly brought the flames under control and prevented the blaze from spreading to a ‘neighboring’ garage. Koch says no injuries were reported, there’s no exact dollar loss and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Traffic was affected for a while as streets were blocked in that neighborhood allowing emergency personnel to do their work. The M-F-R-D was on scene for about an hour and a half and was assisted by the Manitowoc Police Department, Manitowoc Public Utilities & Department of Infrastructure.
