A former Sheboygan resident has received a high honor from the Wisconsin Alumni Association. 38 year old Kashoua Kristy Yang was presented with a 2019 Forward Under 40 Award, and is one of 8 to receive the award this year. Yang was elected onto the Milwaukee County Circuit Court back in 2017, making headlines along the way, as she is the first Hmong-American Judge to be elected rather than appointed, and the first Female Hmong-American judge in the entire country. Yang is very proud of her position, saying, “Every day when I put on my robe, I am reminded of what an honor and privilege it is to serve the public in this role,” While she was not born in Sheboygan that is where her family settled after Yang was born a refugee in Thailand.
