Madison’s school superintendent is vowing to address racial tensions at schools in the district. Jennifer Cheatham wrote an open letter Friday acknowledging several incidents involving racial slurs used by teachers at or in front of students and an alleged assault on an eleven-year-old African American girl by a positive behavior coach. Cheatham laid out steps in the letter that the district is taking to create what she calls meaningful change. The steps include a new reporting system, reviews, and revisions in policies, and professional development.
