
It was opening night for the WIAA Regional Boys Basketball Tournament. One of the Division-1 games was played at Acuity Fieldhouse in Sheboygan, where the South Redwings rode the play of 5’ 11” junior guard Josh Govek to a 69-55 victory over Manitowoc Lincoln. Govek, the FRCC regular season scoring champion at more than 24-points a game, exceeded that with a dominating 39 points against the visiting Ships. Jake Marver added 11, as South advances to play at top-seeded Sussex Hamilton in the Regional semifinals, Friday night. Lincoln, which ends the season with a mark of 6-17, was led by Justin Steinbecker who came off the bench to score 18 all on three pointers. Leading scorer Mason Dopirak was held to only 11 points by Redwings Coach & Lincoln graduate Jesse Shaw’s box and one defense, which limited his touches. The two teams had split the regular season series Sheboygan South will take an 8-15 record to Hamilton.
