Republican lawmakers will ask Governor Tony Evers to include a package of criminal justice initiatives in his proposed budget. Money for more assistant district attorney positions and increasing the pay for those assistants and for public defenders would be included. The lawmakers held a news conference in Marathon County Monday to talk about the need for treatment alternative programs to help offenders who have alcohol and drug addictions.
