Columbia County officials will spend five-million dollars expanding the paved shoulder of Highway 22 for safety. The five-mile stretch of road is used by Amish children in the area when they drive their horse-drawn buggies to a from school each day. The work starting next year would expand the paved shoulders to five feet. The construction project will be consistent with neighboring Marquette County, where Amish families have also asked for wider shoulders on the highway.
