It was not a good weekend for snowmobilers around Wisconsin, as five accidents occurred, which resulted in the deaths of four people, including one in Calumet County. Lt. Roy Zellmer of the Wisconsin DNR Bureau of Law Enforcement, a unit was traveling across Lake Winnebago on Saturday at around 4:30 PM when it appears to have struck a snowbank or ice crack. The machine ended up landing on top of the unnamed operator resulting in his death. Alcohol and speed have not been ruled out as potential factors. Other operators did not survive their crashes in Iron, Langlade, Dunn, and Forrest Counties. Lt. Zellmer says that the DNR wardens are working with local law enforcement agencies on each of the cases.
