Citizen feedback has been high in regards to the condition of side roads since last Thursday’s Snowstorm. City officials say the difficulty lies in freezing rain falling shortly after 2 inches of snowfall compacting the snow leaving it to freeze and become hard/packed after being driven over. City Policy states that side streets are not plowed when less than three inches of snow falls. The Department of Public Infrastructure adds that slush blocked many sewers and froze quicker than it could be plowed which if left blocked could cause more severe issues. DPI adds city crews have been out in recent days plowing to improve conditions in advance of tomorrow’s expected storm. A post-storm meeting was held to address “these unusual conditions” and how to handle them in the future. Main streets are in good condition—60 to 70 percent of side streets are listed in fair condition with a small percentage in poor condition. The city appreciates citizens patience and understanding and if there’s a particular-street where there is (are) substantial issues, please contact the Mayor’s office at 686-6980.
