Holy Family Memorial Doctor Cardiologist HFM
February has been recognized as Heart Month, and Holy Family Memorial, based in Manitowoc, is encouraging people to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Here is Cardiologist, Doctor Michael Rosenberg.
HFM has the only 24/7 cardiac-cath lab to treat heart attacks in Manitowoc and Sheboygan Counties and has been recognized nationally as a top 100 hospital for that care. However, Rosenberg explains they’re a bit of a victim of their own success.
“Meaning patients are coming here from a greater distance, thereby increasing the door to balloon time for successful treatment.” In other words, the doctors at HFM have less time to help the patients before it is too late. That being said, Dr. Rosenberg says “the ability to save lives is very sustaining” for his team.
The Cardiologist also informed us of some statistics from a national study. For those who died, the time from the 9-1-1 call to cath lab intervention was 93.6 minutes, while those who survived saw their time average out at 80.3 minutes. What this means is that based on their stats, the difference between life and death is as little as 15 minutes. Dr. Rosenberg advises, “Keep an open mind…don’t assume the best…assume potentially the worst. Nobody likes to call 9-1-1, but that’s the right decision to make.”
