In the eyes of Congressman Glen Grothman, last night’s State of the Union address was a success. The Glenbeulah native praised the president for covering a variety of topics.
A major talking point was again the border wall between Mexico and the U.S. Grothman noted that any hope for large scale bi-partisan support for the wall was evidently not happening anytime soon.
He did note, however that there are several Democratic colleagues of his that do support the wall, but do not have the support of the party to make it happen. From the outside looking in, it appears that the battle lines are clearly drawn, and that the parties will only side with their side, and will ignore anything brought on by the other. Grothman says that is not entirely true.
One of the parts of the State of the Union that Grothman was very pleased with was the President denouncing the laws put into place by the Governors of New York and Virginia, which allow abortions up until the child is born.
The Congressman said that he does not believe that the President said anything that alienated any of his major detractors.
