Manitowoc residents are excited to welcome a Panera Bread into the community, which will open at the intersection of Calumet Avenue and Rapids Road. Panera is considered a fast-casual restaurant, meaning it does not offer full table service, but provides higher quality food than fast food restaurants, with fewer frozen or processed ingredients. It is an intermediate concept between fast food and casual dining and usually priced accordingly. Panera prides itself on its 2016 resolution to remove all artificial ingredients from its food items and offers a variety of healthy and delicious meals. It seems to be working out for them, as they were named the top sandwich shop brand of the year in 2018, according to the Harris Poll Equitrend findings. Emily Kahlenberg, a student at Silver Lake College, exclaimed her enthusiasm about the opening of Panera in Manitowoc, claiming it to be one of her favorite restaurants. She is excited to no longer have to travel to Green Bay to enjoy it and really likes that Panera offers multiple healthy eating options- from soups and salads to sandwiches. For those looking to satisfy their sweet tooth, Panera also offers a range of pastries and sweets. Lisa Delsman, Emily’s aunt and a professional in the area, is also excited about the addition of a restaurant in the area that serves healthy meals. She is looking forward to meeting co-workers there for lunch and hopes they will deliver. Panera did not respond to comment if they would be providing this service. The restaurant should be open by spring, and they are currently hiring for positions in Manitowoc.
