Firefighters Find Body In Lafayette County Home After Putting Fire Out

Authorities say one person was killed in a house fire in Lafayette County on Wednesday morning. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office says deputies, along with firefighters responded to the home on South Lake Road in the town of Fayette shortly before noon. Emergency officials say the 9-1-1 caller who reported seeing the fire said it appeared the first floor of the home was engulfed in flames and it was believed a person was still inside. Sheriff’s officials say a body was found inside the residence after the fire was extinguished. The identity of the victim has not been released. Fire officials say the residence was a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
