The man who died after falling through the Lake Winnebago ice Monday evening has been identified as 55 year old Peter Zacherl. He was driving an ATV on the Lake Just north of Fond du Lac at around 9:30 PM, when he, along with 23 year old Daniel Zacherl and 22 year old Sabrina Butler who were on sharing a unit, fell through the ice. A third ATV being driven by 69 year old Maurice Plummer was able to stop before he fell into the hole as well. Daniel was able to help get Butler out of the water, but Peter died after going underwater. An investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office determined that the group came across a pressure crack in the ice, which resulted in the breakage.
