De Pere Man Sentenced for Causing the Death of a Colorado Man

A De Pere man will be spending the next three years in the Brown County Jail after it was determined that he caused the death of a 63 year old man back in April of 2017. 31 year old Shay Shmyser was traveling on I-41under the influence of alcohol when he struck Colorado native Gary Schuller. Shuller was standing outside of his vehicle when he was struck. A Blood Alcohol Test showed that Symser had a BAC of .261, well over the legal limit. While in court, Smyser showed remorse, stating that he felt sorry “ashamed and heartbroken.” His prison sentence will be followed by three years of extended supervision.
