Even though Madison’s population is growing, the city is using less water. Officials with the water utility report Madison pumped nine-point-two-billion gallons of water to homes and businesses in 2018. That is 200-million gallons less than the year before and a drop of almost one-billion gallons over the last four years. Despite the addition of new buildings, homes and apartments, utility officials say the water supply is being used more efficiently — and is at its lowest level for customers living in single-family homes in the last 20 years.
