Sheriff’s officials say one man has died after the S-U-V he was driving broke through the ice on a lake in Polk County. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says emergency dispatch received a 9-1-1 call shortly before 5 P-M Thursday about a vehicle that had gone through the ice on Balsam Lake. Deputies say about 25 minutes later, first responders recovered the body of a man from the submerged S-U-V that had Minnesota license plates. Sheriff’s officials say the man was transported to St. Croix Regional Medical Center in St. Croix Falls where he later died. The victim has been identified as 63-year-old David Maki of Blaine, Minnesota.
