A group of people are planning a peaceful protest outside the Manitowoc County Courthouse at around 2:00 PM, during the preliminary hearing for the man accused of starving a dog to death. 26-year-old James Nettles was arrested in early December after it was discovered that a K9 named Apollo died from malnourishment while in his care, and another was on the brink of death as well. The group intends on holding signs and will demand that Nettles be held responsible for his actions. The main organizer, Cole Benthein, has also made contact with Mayor Justin Nickels and Deputy Chief Robert Barbier on what they will need to do to ensure the protest is legal. The group, which organized on Facebook, stated “It’s time that animal abusers face real punishment…Let’s demand JUSTICE FOR APOLLO!” The event can be found on Facebook by or by clicking HERE.
