Business is brisk for the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s office and it’s being driven by deaths blamed on drug overdoses. County officials are hoping the trend doesn’t continue, but there’s no reason to believe it won’t. Eleven deaths between January 2nd and January 9th were due to probable opioid overdoses. The county has seen more than 700 overdose deaths in the last two years. Ambulance crews say they are dealing with a noticeable increase in opioid overdoses and they are using the life-saving antidote Narcan much more often than in the past.
