Law enforcement agencies responded to the Town of Gibson Wednesday afternoon after the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department received information that a citizen had found a backpack in a ditch that was suspected to contain items related to drug manufacturing paraphernalia. Lt. Dave Remiker of the Manitowoc County Metro Drug Unit tells Seehafer News that investigators responded to the scene on State Highway 147 east of County Highway R and met with the citizen.
The Outagamie-Brown County Bomb Squad was called in to assist on scene. Remiker says they processed the item in question and took X-Rays to determine whether it was safe.
It was also discovered that the suspect(s) attempted to detonate it while it was possibly thrown from a vehicle into the ditch. All evidence was collected and processed for forensic examination and it may be enough to identify the individual(s) responsible. Anyone with information that can aid in the investigation is encouraged to call 683-4124 or if you choose to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 683-4466 where you may be eligible for a cash reward.
