With the New Year comes a new technique being utilized by scammers. The Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection is reporting that they have seen an increase in the number instances of scammers calling people claiming to the Social Security Administration. People will be asked for their social security number because it is supposedly about to be suspended. The DATCP advises people to never give their social security number out to anyone that you did not contact first. If you are worried about what is being said to you, contact the actual SSA office at 1-800-772-1213.
