Advocates for Milwaukee’s homeless population say there simply isn’t enough shelter space available now that frigid temperatures have set in. There are an estimated 900 people living without homes in the state’s largest city and only 600 beds are available. Milwaukee city leaders have said they are investigating ways to come up with more housing for people who desperately need shelter during freezing temperatures. Many of the homeless are military veterans and some of them deal with addiction or mental illness. Many others simply refuse any of the help which is being offered.
