A preliminary hearing for a 48-year-old Manitowoc man—one of two defendants charged in the death of a three-year-old child this summer—had his preliminary hearing delayed until next month. Eduardo Gamez is scheduled to return to court January 10th as he continues to seek representation from the Public Defender’s Office on charges of felony child abuse causing death—chronic neglect of a child and possession of methamphetamine. On July 28th police responded to a local hospital for a call of a child suffering from severe internal and external injuries. The child, in the care of Gamez and 36-year-old Jamie Schrank, died later that evening. Gamez remains in the County Jail on a $250 thousand cash bond while Schrank has a settlement conference with the District Attorney’s office tomorrow at 11:30 am. She remains in the County Jail in lieu of $350 thousand cash.
