The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has released a study which shows that underage tobacco sales are down from 7.1% in 2017 to 5.8% this year, with little cigars, smokeless tobacco, and e-cigarettes remaining the highest sold item. Karen McKeown, State Health Officer praised tobacco retailers saying, “Retailers are our partners in the effort to prevent tobacco sales to minors, and we applaud their efforts to help protect children’s health… We’re encouraged to see the sales numbers going in the right direction.” The DHS aids retailers by offering free online training to the retailers, helping familiarize those selling the products with Wisconsin tobacco law.
