In an unusual step, former Packer coach Mike McCarthy was allowed to talk to the players and coaches before practice Thursday. Interim coach Joe Philbin — a McCarthy friend — says the man who led the team for 13 years showed his love for the players in an emotional talk. At the end of the brief speech, everyone in the room gave McCarthy a standing ovation. He was fired Sunday after the 20-17 loss to Arizona.
