The president of the Milwaukee Common Council says he has been hearing from people calling for new leadership for the city’s future. Ashanti Hamilton filed paperwork which would allow him to run for mayor. Hamilton says he plans to make a decision, followed by a formal announcement, in the coming weeks. He was first elected to the Common Council 14 years ago and became its president in 2016. Current Mayor Tom Barrett has held the position since 2004.
