The Republican leadership in the Wisconsin Senate says it is still short by at least six votes in its effort to pass a job-saving tax incentive package worth 70-million dollars. Paper-making giant Kimberly-Clark announced plans to close two plants near Appleton earlier this year. The tax incentive package could keep one of them open, retaining almost 400 jobs for the region. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says the conversations about the bill are still ongoing, but the “votes are not there.” Republicans which don’t support the plan are worried other big businesses would hold the state hostage by threatening to eliminate jobs.
